Going by recent developments, Nitish Kumar who reclaimed his throne — Bihar Chief Minister’s post — with the support of his old ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), still seems adamant in supporting the Opposition’s Vice Presidential nominee Gopalkrishna Gandhi.

While speaking to TOI, a senior leader from Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) claimed that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is firm on his decision of supporting the Opposition’s nominee for the Vice President post.

The leader also said that Nitish allying with BJP and supporting Opposition’s candidate are two different issues and should not be mixed.

The leader said, “Nitish ji has always maintained that the party has different roles in Bihar and in national politics. Alliance with BJP was in the interest of the state but the party has supported Gandhi on merit and his credentials. Therefore, there is no reason to change the decision.”

As per reports, it is not only Nitish but all the other MPs from the party have also been asked to consider Gandhi over NDA’s Naidu.

However, Nitish Kumar had gone out of way to support NDA’s presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind instead of lending support to Opposition’s Meira Kumar.

The BJP Parliamentary board meet which was called on July 18, had picked former Information and Broadcasting and Housing and Urban Affairs minister, Venkaiah Naidu as the Vice President nominee.
