Union women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi has urged to legalise marijuana, a psychoactive drug which is used in several counties for medical purposes. According to her, marijuana should be legalised for medical purposes as it serves a purpose in cancer treatments.
As per reports, Maneka’s proposal for legalising marijuana was presented during her second meeting with a group of ministers (GOM), who examine the draft Cabinet note for the National Drug Demand Reduction Policy.
“In some of the developed countries like the US, marijuana has been legalised, which ultimately results in less drug abuse,” Maneka was quoted as saying during the GoM meet.
“The possibility of the same may be explored in India”, she added.
Apparently, with minor adjustments made by GoM at the meeting headed by home minister Rajnath Singh, the draft policy has been taken under consideration.
