The Indian and Pakistani Army exchanged heavy fire on Wednesday on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
Defence Ministry sources said the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling on the LoC using small arms, automatics and mortars to target Indian positions. The ceasefire violation started at 5.34 am, the sources said.
“Indian positions are retaliating effectively. Firing exchanges going on,” the ministry sources added.
On August 12, a woman and an army JCO were killed in unprovoked breach of the LoC ceasefire by Pakistani soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
Ruqia Bibi was killed in Pakistan firing on the LoC in Bakakot area of Mendhar sector in Poonch in the morning.
“Pakistan Army again initiated unprovoked firing on Indian Army posts at around 5 pm. Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively,” a defence official said, adding that in the exchange of fire, Naib Subedar Jagram Singh Tomar was grievously injured and succumbed to his injuries.
Tomar, 42 years, belonged to village Tarsana in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district and is survived by his wife and a son and daughter.
