Storming the fight within the party, Nitish Kumar led Janata Dal United (JD-U) faction on Saturday passed a resolution at its national executive meeting in Patna to join the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance or NDA.
The decision comes amid the political slugfest after Nitish Kumar’s decision to take oath as Bihar CM on July 26 with the BJP’s support has been at loggerhead with Sharad Yadav over his decision to split from the grand alliance.
Following the power tussle, Sharad Yadav was removed from as the leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha. The name of JD(U)’s Rajya Sabha member Ram Chandra Prasad Singh is doing the rounds as the new leader of the parliamentary party.
Meanwhile, Sharad Yadav also held a parallel meeting in Patna today while CM Nitish Kumar took over party’s national executive meeting in Patna.
“Sharad Yadav will not attend the JD-U national executive meeting on August 19 here, instead he, along with party’s Rajya Sabha member Ali Anwar Ansari, will hold a ‘Jan-Adalat Sammelan’ the same day,” a party leader close to Sharad Yadav said.
Sharad Yadav is believed to soon announce his decision to attend Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad’s August 27 rally against the BJP in Patna.
Earlier this week, in a move aimed to send a strong message to the party, JDU on Monday suspended 21 party members from their primary memberships over-involvement in anti-party activities in the state of Bihar.
The circular released by the party has a list of all the 21 party men stating that the whip has been commissioned by Janata Dal (United) state president Vashistha Narayan Singh. “The suspension will be in effect from August 14,” reads the statement.
Notably, earlier today, criticising Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s decision to part ways grand alliance to join hands with Bhartiya Janta party (BJP), Congress on Saturday said that the Janta Dal United (JD-U) chief who was once a respected stalwart in the state is left to being Amit Shah’s servant now.
Senior Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said that a lot of party men inside JD(U) are unhappy with Nitish Kumar. “Many leaders in the party are tensed because of Nitish’s decision. The way he switched sides was astonishing. Nobody has ever done such an act before. He has crushed his morality,” he said.
Speaking further Dikshit also said that agonized by Nitish a lot of respected JD(U) leaders will leave the party soon. Calling Nitish a weak chief minister, Dikshit added, “There was a time when he was a respected leader, but now he is working as Amit Shah’s servant.”
