Congress on Monday hit out at Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to stop making “tall claims” and give proof for his statement on demonetisation stating that the Maoists in many parts of India and separatists in Jammu and Kashmir are “fund starved” post the note ban.

Senior Congress party leader PC Chacko said that the Finance Minister instead of making assumptions should give authenticated proofs.

“The Finance Minister of India is making certain assumptions without any basis. He is making some tall claims but not being authenticated so far,” said Chacko.

Speaking further, Chacko took said that FM Jaitley should know that just putting forward tall claims will not satisfy the people of India. “People are not going to believe what they are saying. I think people will not take his (Jaitley’s) statements on its face value,” added Chacko, reports ANI.

Notably, Arun Jaitley while addressing a function in Mumbai on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s decision of demonetisation last year has given a major hit to the stone-pelters and Maoists; leaving them “fund-starved.”

“Stone-pelters used to gather in thousands on the streets of Kashmir before demonetisation was announced, but now not even 25 come together for such agitations. After demonetisation, separatists in Jammu and Kashmir and also Maoists in states like Chhattisgarh have become fund starved,” he said.

The minister also added that the money that was being initially circulated outside the economy has now come back to the formal banking channel of the country.
