On Tuesday, in a historic verdict, the Islamic practice — Triple talaq — was termed invalid by the Supreme Court. The order was passed with a majority of judges vouching against the practice of Triple talaq.
Reacting swiftly to the decision by the apex court, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader and sports minister, Vijay Goel, took to his twitter account and hailed the historic verdict.
Vijay Goel took to his twitter handle and tweeted, “साथ है, विश्वास है… #TripleTalaq जैसी कुरीति का नाश है !”

Earlier, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), that stands against the practice of Triple Talaq and works on bringing uniform civil code, has termed the Islamic practice as ‘derogatory’, ‘unconstitutional’ and discriminatory for women.
On Tuesday, the apex court upheld the constitutional validity of Triple talaq – a practice already described by All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) as ‘horrendous’, ‘sinful’ and ‘undesirable’ which had no sanction of Holy Quran and Shariat.
A five judge constitutional bench by a 3:2 majority judgment said there is no constitutional protection for triple talaq.
Justices Kurien Joseph, Rohinton Fali Nariman and Udey Umesh Lalit held that Triple talaq is not integral to Islam, is banned in law and lacks approval of the Shariat.
