For the first time in recent years, the Indian Army nabbed a terrorist in an on-going gunbattle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district. In the encounter, which began last evening, one terrorist was also gunned down by the security forces.

Further disclosing about the overnight gunbattle, the police official said that the operation was carried out jointly by the security forces acting on a tip-off about the presence of three terrorists at Barbugh village in Shopian.

The caught terrorist was identified as Adil Dar, and was said to be belonging to a notorious militant organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The other two terrorists were gunned down in the battle. Out of the two, one was identified as Tariq Ahmad.

The concerned authorities have cordoned off the area and search operations are underway.

Earlier, on Saturday, terrorists attacked a police party in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district leaving a constable dead, striking barely a kilometre from the venue of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s scheduled meeting with security personnel.
