An Al Qaeda terrorist Shami Rehman was arrested from national capital’s Vikas marg area on Sunday.

Haq’s arrest came after tip-off by Delhi Police’s Special Cell. Deputy Commissioner of Police P.S. Kushwah said Rehman was carrying a fake voter identification card in the name of Shumon Haq from Bihar.

According to the police, Haq has been associated with the terror group for past four years. He wanted to build a base in Mizoram and Manipur to recruit people and send them to Myanmar for helping out Rohingya Muslims.

DCP of special cell, PS Kushwaha further added that Haq is a British citizen who has also lived in Bangladesh, Syria and South Africa. Police have seized arms, laptop, phone, Bangladesh currency and sim cards from his possession.

Earlier on Monday, the Narendra Modi government told the Supreme Court that many Rohingya refugees have links with terror organisations and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Refugees from the community present a major security threat, the Centre said in a 16-page affidavit.

Thousands of Rohingya Muslims have led Myanmar and taken refuge in Bangladesh — and some in India too — to escape violence in the wake of a military crackdown.
