The Union cabinet while briefing the media on Wednesday during the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has rationalized 17 Government of India presses into five government presses without causing any job losses. 

Jaitley also said that this move would enable the government to take some 468 acres of land into the central pool.

“All the jobs will be protected,” the Minister was quoted as saying and he also ensured the redeployment of the surplus employees at any printing press.

These printing presses are mainly located in Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, West Bengal, Chandigarh, Odisha and Karnataka.

Coming as a major revelation from the cabinet meeting the Centre has approved payments of productivity linked bonus for employees of Indian Railways prior to the upcoming festival season.

In order to improve their productivity, incentives will be given to these employees as well.  

“The Cabinet has approved 78 days Productivity-Linked Bonus for non-gazetted rail employees for 2016-17,” Jaitley was quoted as saying.

“Six years ago there was a tradition of giving 78 days bonus. So the Cabinet has approved the 78 days productivity-linked bonus,” the Finance Minister further added.

The revamping of ‘Khelo India- National Programme for Development of Sports was approved during the cabinet meeting.

The time period of the scheme ‘Special Industry Initiative for J&K’also known ‘Udaan’ received an extension till 31st December 2018.
