Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) ordered to seal 21 restaurants and pubs in Hauz Khas Village for violating pollution norms. The restaurants were sealed on Saturday in the presence of police and Hauz Khas sub-divisional magistrate.
“The notices for violations were issued over a period of time. We had issued a total of 22 closure notices. But only 21 restaurants were shut down as one eatery had shut earlier”, said Sayed Musawwir Ali, DPCC member secretary.
Delhi Jal Board and power distribution company BSES Rajdhani have also been told to disconnect the water and power supply to these units with immediate effect.
All the 21 restaurants that were issued notices earlier did not respond to the notices and therefore Delhi Pollution Control Committee.
Earlier this year, Delhi High Court had raised serious concerns over the safety of the people visiting restaurants and pubs running in the Hauz Khas Village in violation of building by-laws and the master plan.
“If there is a terrorist attack, how will NSG commandos reach the spot on time,” asked a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar, noting that most of the restaurants have a single point of entry and exit and there is no emergency exit point provided by the owners.
