An alleged rape attempt on a minor girl was foiled after her mother landed just in time to save her from the accused watchman of a government girls hostel. The 14-year-old-victim, who is not a resident of the girls hostel, lives in a house just opposite the hostel in Kota, Rajasthan.

Commenting on the foiled rape attempt incident, a police official said that the case has been registered with the Etawa Police station. He also stated that the accused has been identified as a 25-year-old watchman Kishan Khati.

After his attempt to rape a minor girl was foiled, the accused fled from the scene and is currently absconding. However, the investigation is underway and teams have been formed to nab the accused, reports added.

Further disclosing the matter, an investigating police officer said that the incident took place at 9 AM, the accused allegedly caught hold of the minor girl and attempted to rape her inside the premises which was desolate as the occupants have gone to their homes on puja holidays.

According to the complaint filed by the mother of the victim, the accused has been charged with section 376 and 511 of IPC and section 7, 8 and 18 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).

The incident which took place at Kasturba Gandhi hostel offers school-cum-residential facilities for the girl students from 6th to 8th class with entire female staff apart from watchman.

Rajasthan has been in the headlines for quite some time now because of its incompetence of controlling the rising number of rapes against women.

Just a few days ago, on September 25, a 28-year-old Delhi resident was gangraped by 23 men in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

According to the complaint filed, the victim had said that she was abducted by 2 men in a SUV in broad daylight from a main road.
