Masarat Alam’s surprise release has become the biggest flashpoint in the newly formed alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought fresh inputs from Mufti Mohammed Sayeed government, demanding copies of the High court & supreme court’s orders on detention under PSA. The Home Ministry has also demanded copies of Alam’s bail orders from the court.

Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded re-arrest of Kashmiri separatist leader Masarat Alam who was the Chief architect of 2010 anti-India protests in the valley.

On Tuesday, BJP President Amit Shah summoned Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and conveyed party’s position and future strategy to him.

According to the sources, Amit Shah has told Singh that there should be zero tolerance on the issue of terror and BJP will not tolerate any deviation from the common minimum programme.
