CPI-M, Congress give adjournment motion notices in Lok Sabha over Rafale and demonetisation row: After the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPIM) and Congress’ adjournment motion notices, Lok Sabha speaker Sumita Mahajan adjourned the house till 2 pm over various issues including Rafale fighter jet deal and demonetisation. The house has was suspended for the day after the opposition’s protest and rucks. The Congress leaders have been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Rafale fighter jets deal with France, accusing the Narendra Modi-led NDA government of lying before the Supreme Court on the matter.
Speaking on Rafale controversy, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said his party wants JPC probe as they’ll only get to know everything when parliament members sit and look into files. The JPC had been formed in Bofors and 2G cases also. Had it been one word it would’ve been understandable, entire paragraph can’t be a typo, he said. On Tuesday, a heated argument between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress members. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told media that the government was ready for discussion on any issue but the JPC probe. Trinamool MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha held a dharna this morning near Gandhi statue in Parliament on Tuesday. Members from AIADMK and DMK demonstrated placards and raising slogans as a mark of protesting against a proposed dam on the Cauvery river.
