Delhi Demolition Drive: SDMC plans anti-encroachment drive in South & West zone today

SDMC is all set to restart the Demolition Drive today which will be held at Meherchand Market, Lodhi Colony near Sai Baba Mandir and near JLN Metro Station.

Meanwhile, as a demolition effort was underway in Delhi’s New Friends Colony, Central Zone South Delhi Municipal Corporation Chairman Rajpal Singh refuted suggestions that any religious community was being targeted.

According to Singh, “People claim that we’re carrying out the (demolition) push to discriminate against a religious community…that we’re doing it for their own good. Crossing should be possible for school buses, ambulances, and fire trucks. Public highways should be free of obstructions.”

The Chairman further stated that during Tuesday’s drive, several obstacles on the route between Gurudwara and Ashoka Park would be removed.

Singh commended residents for helping with the Municipal Corporation to clear encroachments during the drive in Shaheen Bagh.

He maintained that the demolition campaign is unrelated to religion and that “people need to adjust their minds.”

The costs incurred by SDMC to remove the encroachment will be recovered from the property owners, according to Singh.

Residents of Shaheen Bagh in the national capital protested on Monday as bulldozers rolled into the area for the SDMC’s anti-encroachment programme.
