In yet another appalling expose of pathetic health services in Madhya Pradesh, visuals of a dog carrying a newborn baby’s body outside a district hospital flourished on the internet. The incident happened in Gopalganj village of the state. The dog carrying the infant’s body was spotted under heavy bushes as the visuals show. People on the street stopped to witness the misery but none dared to recover the body of the baby from the mongrel. This is not the first time that Madhya Pradesh district hospitals have come under the scanner for such agonizing incident.

In the visuals shared by ANI on twitter, the dog’s image has been blurred while the second image shows public waiting and witnessing the incident until police arrived. But it was too late by then and the baby was declared dead by the time police arrived. However, it is yet to be asserted whether the baby was alive or dead when the dog pounced on him/her. The unidentified body of the child has been sent for post-mortem and ann investigation is underway in the matter, confirmed the local police. “As soon as we received the information, we reached the spot and found the body of a new-born in disturbing condition. The body has been sent for post-mortem. An investigation is underway to identify the child,” said Sanjay Soni, the SHO of Gopalganj.

Earlier on November 30, the body of a newborn baby dumped outside Shahdol district hospital in Madhya Pradesh was recovered from the jaws of a street dog. The body was later scooped away by a pig who caught the police officers sleeping while standing over the body. A similar incident was reported from a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh where the body of a new-born girl was dragged by away by a stray dog. The child died only a few hours after being born and was left on the floor wrapped in a rug. The dog entered the ward and took the body away when the patients were unmindful.
