After a brief confrontation with Pakistani smugglers at the international border in the Punjab area of Fazilka on Wednesday, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel recovered 25 kilos of heroin.
According to a senior BSF official, BSF forces stationed at the border noticed some suspicious activity of smugglers on both sides of the border fence in the region near Village Gatti Ajaib Singh in Fazilka district. Officials stated that the activity took place around 1.50 a.m.
BSF personnel quickly opened fire on the Pakistani traffickers ahead of the boundary wire. The smugglers, however, managed to flee by taking advantage of the deep fog. The entire area was blocked off, and the police and other authorities involved were notified.
Additionally, during the first search, BSF personnel discovered four packets of contraband wrapped in yellow tape along the border fence near Village Gatti Ajaib Singh.
During a thorough investigation of the area, troops discovered 21 packages of contraband thought to be heroin wrapped in tape, as well as one 12-foot PVC pipe and one shawl from ahead of border wall, he added.
