In a politically charged Gujarat state ahead of forthcoming Assembly Elections, senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Thursday while taking a derogatory jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I feel that this person (PM Modi) is a very despicable (neech) kind of a man. He does not have any principles or morals.” A day after PM Modi attacked the Congress party for disrespecting two great leaders of the nation, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in a public address in Gujarat, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Thursday said that what was the need of playing such dirty politics at this point of time.

While the Gujarat assembly polls are around the corner, its not new to see political leaders launching personal attacks on each other to get maximum public attention. This is also not the first time when Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Previously in January 2014, almost four months ahead of General Assembly elections, Mani Shankar Aiyar had once again landed himself into a controversy when he had said that Modi can sell tea at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) meet but can never become a Prime Minister.

Mani Shankar Aiyar had said, “I promise you that in this 21st century, Narendra Modi can never become the Prime Minister of India, never, never, never; if he wants he can come and distribute tea.”

Earlier in the day, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in a press conference on Thursday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by PM Modi on issues like economic growth, corruption, etc. Manmohan Singh said, “To equal the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) 10-year average, the economy will have to grow at 10.6% in the fifth year. I would be happy if it were to happen but I frankly do not think it will.”

“Whoever faced corruption allegations during UPA was dealt strictly, but the same cannot be said about BJP, they have not acted on corruption in their rule,” Manmohan Singh added.
