As heavy rains continue to lash various parts of the state, causing widespread destruction, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has warned people of heavy rains. Rescue operations are on and most of the districts are under red alert. The death toll due to flood-related incidents has reached 324, said authorities on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the flood-hit Kerala on Saturday to take stock of flood-affected areas in the coastal state.

Calling the situation in Kerala unprecedented and grim, the state government has asked people to support authorities in rebuilding the lives of affected people. UAE leaders have decided to form an emergency panel to provide aid to Kerala. At present, more than 3 lakh people are living in rescue camps.

12:30 am Clarifying on the news that Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa, Coorg has been damaged, IHCL spokesperson said, “News being flashed across some channels about Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa, Coorg, is absolutely untrue. There has been no damage to the hotel.”

The management had issued an advisory in advance saying, “At all times, safety of our guests and associates remains paramount for IHCL. As a consequence of severe weather conditions currently being experienced in the region; we are temporarily closing operations at Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa, Coorg till further notice. All reservations ‎held by our guests for this period will be suitably addressed. Inconvenience caused as a result is sincerely regretted.”

4:01 pm Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has also announced Rs. 10 crores from Chief Minister Relief Fund for flood-hit Kerala. Other states have also pitched in for aid.

1:48 pm Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also announced an aid of Rs 10 crores for flood-hit Kerala from Bihar Chief Minister Relief Fund.

12:08am: Achankovil river near Alappuzha’s Kollakadavu village is overflowing following heavy rainfall in the area. Shaukat, a villager says, “The area has been completely flooded. I have lost almost everything I had. The water level is increasing with every passing hour.” 

11:40am| Speaking on Kerala floods, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has asked PM Modi to declare Kerala floods a National Disaster without any delay. He said, “lives, livelihood and future of millions of our people is at stake.”

11:37am | Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also announced Rs 500 crore as immediate aid for Kerala, in addition to the 100 crore announced earlier.

11:00am| Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s conducts the aerial survey of the flood-hit Kerala state. The survey was delayed earlier in the morning due to unfavourable weather conditions in the state. The Prime Minister has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh per person to the next kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured, from PM’s National Relief Funds (PMNRF).

8:47 am | The UAE authorities have decided to form a committee to help flood-hit areas of Kerala. Sheikh Khalifa has instructed the formation of a national emergency committee to provide assistance to the people affected.
