Lok Sabha elections 2019 phase 3 LIVE updates:  The third phase of voting has begun in 116 constituencies across 13 states and two union territories. There are going to be 13 states and two union territories that will witness voting today. The states to undergo polls include Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura while the remaining the Union Territories are Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

The Phase 3 of the Lok Sabha polls will also register some of the prominent party leaders contesting from different constituencies for the first time. BJP chief Amit Shah will be making his  Lok Sabha poll debut from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar seat, while Congress president Rahul Gandhi will be contesting from Kerala’s Wayanad for the first time, his second constituency after Amethi. With the end of the third phase, 302 out of 545 constituencies will be done with polling.

States like Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal to witness voting again in the third phase. While the states of Gujarat, Kerala, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Goa, Daman and Diu will vote for the first time today that too in a single phase. By the end of the third phase of polling, over 55 per cent voters and whole South India would have cast their votes for their parliamentary representatives.

The Election Commission had yesterday ordered an FIR be filed against the Malegaon blast accused sadhvi for invoking religious sentiments by saying she was present during the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992. Pragya Thakur faces Congress leader Digvijaya Singh in Bhopal, which is said to be a tough seat.

Boxer Vijender Singh to file nomination from South Delhi: Boxer Vijender Singh is all set to file his nomination from South Delhi Lok Sabha seat as Congress candidate shortly. The boxer says there’s no Modi wave anywhere and added that he was happy to be given an opportunity by the Congress to serve the people.

BJP workers beat Election Official: BJP workers beat up an election official saying he was asking voters to press the Samajwadi Party’s ‘cycle’ symbol in Moradabad. Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar Singh of the BJP is contesting against Dr ST Hasan of the SP and Imran Pratapgarhi of the Congress from here. There had been posters in Moradabad seeking Gandhi son-in-law Robert Vadra’s candidature for the seat.

Sunny Deol joins BJP: Actor Sunny Deol joined the BJP is likely to contest from Gurdaspur constituency, reports said. The seat fell vacant after the death of yesteryear hero Vinod Khanna. Deol’s father Dharmendra was a Rajya Sabha member for the BJP and his stepmother Hema Malini is the sitting Mathura MP. Deol had met party chief Amit Shah yesterday.

Hardik Patel casts his vote in Surendranagar: The Congress leader casted his vote at booth number 252/355 in Surendranagar constituency in Gujarat today. After casting his vote in Viramgam in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad district on Tuesday, Hardik said he will go to Nepal if he needed a Chowkidar (watchman), but currently, he needs a prime minister who can strengthen the country’s economy, education system and provide jobs to the youth. Without taking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name, Hardik Patel said he needs a prime minister not a chowkidar for the country (Chowkidaar dhoondhna hoga toh mein Nepal chala jaaunga, mujhe desh mein PM chahiye jo iss desh ke arthvyavastha ko, shiksha ko, yuvaon, jawanon ko mazboot kar sake. Mujhe chowkidar nahi pradhan mantri chahiye).

Gautam Gambhir holds roadshow: BJP MP candidate from East Delhi, Gautam Gambhir held a roadshow ahead of filing his nomination. Gambhir said he really wants to contribute something to the country…whatever our PM Narendra Modi has done in the last 5 years, I want to take that legacy forward.

Kejriwal on faulty EVMs: Without taking anyone’s name Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that a Congress candidate is openly seeking votes for BJP. He questioned if this is the reason why Congress refused to do an alliance in Goa.

Violence in West Bengal: Incidents of booth capturing, bogus voting and clashes between party workers have been reported from various polling booths in West Bengal’s Murshidabad. The police, in fact, lathi-charged the voters around leaving several injured including a child. On the contrary, police have denied allegations saying there was infighting among people.

PM Modi casts vote: After casting his vote, the Prime Minister boarded an open jeep to greet voters. He said he was happy to fulfil his responsibility towards the country and participate in the rigorous exercise of voting in a democracy. Modi said he was happy to cast his vote as it’s the festival of democracy and one should not refrain from their right to vote. The Prime Minister further appealed voters across the country to vote and not waste their right.  He said voters are smart enough to decide on who they will choose. He also appealed the first-time voters to choose wisely before casting their votes as it’s going to decide their future.

PM Modi seeks mother’s blessings in Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his mother Heeraben Modi at her residence in Gandhinagar before casting his vote at a polling booth in Ranip in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad district on Tuesday. After casting his ballot, the prime minister said he is fortunate that he also got the opportunity to fulfil his duty (to cast vote) in his home state (Gujarat) where the third phase of polling is underway. Modi said one feels pure after casting vote in this festival of democracy which is akin to take a holy dip in Kumbh.

Third phase voting begins for the 2019 elections in 116 constituencies across 13 States and 2 Union Territories: People queue up outside the polling station in Dhubri to cast their votes. Four parliamentary constituencies of the state are undergoing polling today.
