Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, alleged on Friday that she was placed under house arrest in Srinagar immediately before her visit to Budgam, where a government employee from the Kashmir Pandit community was shot dead by terrorists at his office in the Chadoora district yesterday.
Mufti claimed that she intended to visit Budgam to demonstrate sympathy with Kashmiri Pandits, but that she was denied permission by government officials to leave her Srinagar residence.
“Have been put under house arrest as the fact that Kashmiri Muslims and Pandits empathise with each other’s pain doesn’t fit into their vicious communal narrative,” She sent out a tweet.
“Another life has been lost, and another family has been heartbroken,” Mufti said earlier on Thursday. In this hour of loss, my heart breaks for the grieving family. It also refutes Kashmir’s phoney claims of normalcy.”
Meanwhile, members of the Kashmiri Pandit community in Jammu protested the cremation of the deceased government worker, Rahul Bhat. In 2010-11, Bhat was hired as a clerk under the special employment package for migrants.
