Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), said on Thursday that the party will not participate in the next vote for vice president.

He remarked “As resolved in the meeting, TMC will not vote in the next VP elections. Both Margaret Alva of the opposition and Jagdeep Dhankar of the NDA would not get the backing of TMC in the vice presidential election.”

“We are familiar with Jagdeep Dhankhar’s character as the Governor of West Bengal. He made a variety of attacks on both the Chief Minister and the Bengali people. Therefore, at all costs, we will not support the NDA candidate ” he said.

According to the TMC MP, Margaret Alva was chosen as the vice presidential candidate by the opposition without contacting the TMC.

He said, “The Opposition announced the nominees without consulting the TMC, which has 35 MPs.”

TMC General Secretary stated “Some of the names we suggested were being discussed. However, the name was chosen without our input. However, the Opposition’s cohesion is not determined by the outcome of the President or Vice President elections. Mamata Banerjee and Alva get along well personally, but that doesn’t matter.”

Mamata Banerjee and Hemanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, met with Dhankhar for three hours at the Darjeeling Governor’s House soon before he was named the vice president candidate.
