Presidential election: J P Nadda speaks to Sonia Gandhi, Deve Gowda seeking support for Droupadi Murmu

JP Nadda met with Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and HD Deve Gowda on Friday to seek unanimous support for the NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu

According to reports, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda met with Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and HD Deve Gowda on Friday to seek unanimous support for the NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu in the impending election.

However, Droupadi Murmu met with leaders of opposition parties like as the Congress, NCP, and Trinamool Congress (TMC) earlier today to solicit their support for her candidacy. Murmu met with Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and NCP leader Sharad Pawar.

However, Mamata Banerjee made no promises to Murmu but wished her luck in the poll.

Despite the fact that Yashwant Sinha had been nominated as the unified opposition’s presidential candidate, Murmu sought the support of Opposition parties.

Murmu, meantime, filed her nomination papers today at the Parliament Library Building in the national capital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered her name for the nomination, which Defence Minister Rajnath Singh seconded.

The chief ministers of BJP-ruled states were the second group of proposers, MLAs and MPs from Himachal and Haryana were the third set, and MLAs and MPs from Gujarat comprised the fourth set.

PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are among those present. Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Nitin Gadkari, Arjun Munda, and Union Ministers and BJP leaders Gen VK Singh (Retd), Bhupender Yadav, and Giriraj Singh were present in Parliament for her nomination submission.

During her nomination submission, the Chief Ministers of all BJP-ruled states were present, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Assam Chief Minister and Himanta Biswa Sarma, among others.

In addition, Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) chairman V Vijayasai Reddy, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Tukuni Sahu, BJJD MP Dr Sasmit Patra, and Jagannath Saraka are present.

Droupadi Murmu, the BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate, is a former Jharkhand governor and Odisha minister.

On July 18, she will face opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in the presidential election.
