Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has announced that public consumption of alcohol will be banned in the western state soon. This decision has come in order to prevent accidents and trouble created by drunken people.

The compulsory amendments to the excise act will be done next month. “We need to come out with the notification banning drinking of liquor in public places. The notification will be issued by October end for which we will amend the existing law,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister had earlier banned drinking on the beaches stating that strict action will be taken against the violators leading to an arrest.

“If people want to consume alcohol, they can drink in their personal premises”, said CM Manohar Parrikar.
