M Natarajan, husband of troubled All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader VK Sasikala has undergone a successful dual organ transplant in Chennai’s Gleneagles Global Health City.
The condition of chronic liver disease patient, M Natarajan is stable after the after the seven-and-a-half hour kidney and liver transplant surgery which began late on Tuesday night, a senior doctor at the Institute of Liver Diseases and Transplantation told media.
The AIADMK leader, Sasikala had applied for a 15-day parole from the Karnataka Prisons authorities to be with her ailing husband, but it was rejected on technical grounds. She was asked to resubmit another application with more details and supporting documents.
The news of rejection of Sasikala’s parole was confirmed by Dinakaran. He said their advocate informed him that her plea was turned down due to insufficient details.
“If she seeks parole properly (with required documents) again, I am sure she will get it,” Dinakaran said.
The donor was 19-year-old daily wage earner Karthik, who had been injured in a road accident in Thanjavur from where he was first taken to Tiruchi by road, and later reportedly air-lifted to Chennai.
In a press release hospital said it had received organs from Karthik who was declared brain dead on Tuesday.
The hospital did not name the recipients but said the liver and a kidney went to a 74-year-old patient in Tamil Nadu, the heart to a 43 year-old man from in the state and the lungs to a 62 year-old man from UP.
“All operations went on well and patients are recovering well in the intensive care unit,” the release added.
