Yasin Malik, a separatist leader from Jammu and Kashmir, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Wednesday in a terror funding case.
Malik was sentenced to life in jail and was also fined Rs.10 lakh by the NIA court. He was twice sentenced to life in prison (one for waging war against the nation and one in UAPA sec 17 raising fund for terror act).
However, NIA had pushed for the death penalty for the separatist commander, who was found guilty on May 19.
On May 10, Malik told the court that he would not contest the charges brought against him, which included sections 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for a terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit a terrorist act), and 20 (membership in a terrorist gang or organization) of the UAPA, as well as sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the IPC.
