The Great India Run kicked off this evening from Srinagar’s iconic Lal Chowk. From August 5 to 15, the relay run will cover 829 kilometers across four states, from Srinagar to New Delhi. The race commemorates the 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the campaign ‘Har Ghar Tiranga.’ The event, organized by iTV and the iTV Foundation, builds on the success of the inaugural Great India Run, which took place in 2016.

Shri Manoj Sinha, L-G J&K, and Shri Kartik Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP from Lal Chowk, Srinagar, raised the flag in Srinagar. The L-G presented the lead runner with a national flag after unfurling it at the venue in support of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. Arun Bhardwaj, an ultramarathon runner, is leading the first leg of the race.

LG Manoj Sinha congratulated the runners and wished them luck at the start.

Kartik Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP, expressed appreciation to the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign and encouraged people from all across the nation to participate in the run’s many legs. “I’m happy to be here with the Hon’ble LG Manoj Sinha ji at Lal Chowk to watch the Great India Run Flag Off.” This race will benefit the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative to commemorate our ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.’ My warmest wishes go out to all of the hundreds of runners who will be racing for India, and I encourage all Indians to participate in mini-runs during the various legs. That such an event can take place at Lal Chowk is a testimony to the J&K establishment, central forces, police, and Indian Army. It depicts the future optimism that a New India represents. “I’m looking forward to seeing the runners carrying the Indian flag all over the country and contributing to the success of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign,” he said.
