In a major success, terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) operational head Khalid was gunned down during an encounter that ensued between security forces and militants on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. According to a police official, cordon and search operation was launched by security forces following an input about the presence of terrorists in the area. The search operation converted into a gun battle as militants started to fire towards the search party.

Inspector general of police (Kashmir range) Muneer Khan has confirmed the news of Khalid’s killing. “The killed militant is Khalid alias Khalid Bhai, the Jaish chief in Kashmir who was behind all the recent fidayeen attacks,’’ Khan was quoted as saying by an English daily. Khalid was on the list of most-wanted names in hit-list of police. Khalid, a Pakistan national was catagorised as A++ militant. He is said to be behind the recent suicide attacks in the state.

Earlier on Sunday Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said Indian troops along the LoC and International Border with Pakistan had been killing at least five to six terrorists in a day. He also said that he has instructed the soldiers to not initiate the fire, but give a befitting reply if other side opens fire.

“We have defeated Pakistan’s nefarious design to weaken India by exporting terror with anti-terror operations and neutralising infiltrators from across the border on almost daily basis,” Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said at a function in Bengaluru.

Many ‘wanted’ terrorists have been neutralised by Indian security forces in recent times in the Valley. Earlier in September, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist and Amarnath terror attack mastermind Abu Ismail and his aide were killed by security forces in Aribagh area of Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar.
