Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Surendra Singh, who is no stranger to controversy, on Saturday said that even Lord Ram can’t stop rising rape incidents. When asked about the rising crime against women in the state and country, the BJP leader said that the constitution and government can’t stop such incidents but these can only be controlled by inculcating good character among men, women and children. However, this is not the first time that Surendra Singh has triggered a controversy, the BJP leader is known for making contentious remarks.
Last month, the BJP leader demanded that Taj Mahal should be renamed as Ram Mahal. He further said, “Taj Mahal should not be destroyed as someone had erected the building using our land resources that belong to India. Someone used India’s resources and the construction worker’s. So, its name should be changed.”
Earlier, Surendra Singh draws flak for comparing government officials with prostitutes. The saffron party legislator said that prostitutes have better character than government officials. “Officials se accha charitra vaishyaon ka hota hai, woh paisa lekar kam se kam apna kaam toh karti hain aur stage pe naachti hain. Par yeh officials toh paisa lekar bhi aapka kaam karenge ki nahi, iski koi guarantee hi nahi hai, ” ANI quoted Surendra Singh as saying.
The BJP MLA had compared West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee with Surpanakaha, a sister of demon king Ravana in Hindu epic Ramayana.
It seems like his continuous controversial comments are a clear ignorance to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s warning. Addressing BJP workers and lawmakers, PM Modi in April said that party leaders should avoid making controversial statements before the media.
