Uttar Pradesh: Mother Delivers Baby in Ambulance After Hospital Denies Admission Due to Absence of Anesthesiologist in Mainpuri

A mother was forced to deliver her baby in an ambulance en route to a hospital after being denied admission at another hospital in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. The hospital, identified as “Sausaiya Matra Shishu Chikitshalaya,” reportedly refused the mother due to the absence of an anesthesiologist, preventing them from conducting the necessary delivery procedure, according to a report by news agency ANI.

The incident has sparked outrage and raised questions about the readiness of medical facilities in the region to handle emergency situations, especially when critical staff are unavailable.

Hospital Cites Lack of Anesthesiologist as Reason for Refusal

The ordeal began when the mother arrived at the Sausaiya Matra Shishu Chikitshalaya, seeking medical assistance for her delivery. However, the hospital staff informed the family that due to complications, a normal delivery would not be possible, and an operation was required. The father of the newborn expressed his disbelief and frustration over the hospital’s handling of the situation.

“They told us that the baby could not be delivered normally due to complications and that an operation would be necessary,” said the father. However, shortly after, the hospital revealed that their anesthesiologist was not available, making it impossible to perform the required procedure. As a result, the hospital referred the mother to another medical facility.

Delivery in Ambulance: A Harrowing Journey

Unable to perform the surgery, the hospital arranged for the mother to be transported to a different hospital. Unfortunately, during the ambulance journey, the mother went into labor and delivered her baby inside the vehicle, assisted by the ambulance staff. This alarming sequence of events has highlighted the gaps in emergency healthcare services in the region.

Authorities Launch Investigation into the Incident

Following the incident, the district administration has taken steps to investigate the circumstances surrounding the hospital’s refusal. Chief Medical Officer Dr. R.C. Gupta announced the formation of a two-member investigating committee to probe the matter and determine accountability.

“A complaint was registered by the concerned person, and for this, I have made a two-member investigating committee. In one week, they will submit the report, and further investigation will take place following that report,” Dr. Gupta told ANI.

The committee’s findings are eagerly awaited, as the incident has become a focal point for discussing the need for better healthcare management, particularly in smaller hospitals that may lack comprehensive staffing.
