Veteran lawyer Ram Jethmalani died at his residence in New Delhi on Sunday. He was 95-year-old and fought several high-profile cases in his career. He also served as the law minister and the urban development minister in erstwhile Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Ram Jethmalani passed away just six days short of his 96th birthday. 

Jethmalani had represented many politicians in the court including former prime minister PV Narasimha Rao, KM Nanavati, LK Advani, Arvind Kejriwal, and many others. Ram Jethmalani’s death was confirmed by his son Mahesh Jethmalani. He said that last rites of his father will be performed at the Lodhi Road crematorium today evening. 

Soon after the news of Ram Jethaliani’s death surfaced social media users started extending condolences to the family of the veteran lawyer. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Ram Jethmalani’s his fortitude and fight for public liberties during the dark days of the Emergency will be remembered. 

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that he is extremely saddened after learning about the at the passing away of legendary lawyer Ram Jethmalani.

Delhi CM called him an institution who shaped the criminal law in post-independence India. His void would never be filled and his name will be written in golden words in legal history. RIP Ram sir, said Kejriwal.

In a series of tweets, Union Minister Amit Shah said he is deeply pained to know about the passing away of India’s veteran lawyer and former Union Minister Shri Ram Jethmalani ji. 

Vice President Venkhaiya Naidu paid tribute to the veteran lawyer at his residence and extended the condolences to the Jethmalani family.
