Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, lay the foundation stone for the Ram Mandir’s Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) at Ayodhya on Wednesday, paving the way for the grand temple’s superstructure to be built. While chanting mantras, the Chief Minister and top seers performed a ‘Shila Pujan’ as they put the first carved stone at the temple site.

Later, Adityanath told reporters that the 500-year-old ‘tadpan’ (unease) of devotees will come to an end, and that the temple will become a symbol of people’s faith.

The foundation stone for the Ram Janmbhoomi site was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 5, 2020. By December 2023, the temple should be open to the public.

The construction of the temple (a three-story structure) is underway, according to the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra (SRJBTK), which was established by the government in February 2020 for the construction and maintenance of Ram Mandir.

According to Nripendra Misra, head of the Ram Mandir construction committee, the granite stone plinth work, which began in February 2022, will be completed by August 2022. The plinth will be built with around 17,000 stones measuring 5ftx2.5ftx3ft.
