New Delhi: This is an inspiring story in this fast moving age. In a time where people are so deeply stuck in their own life cycle and have hardly any time to bother about the sufferings of the others, here is a man who walks around the national capital and distributes medicines to those who can’t afford it.
The man is Omkarnath Sharma, now known as the ‘Medicine Baba’ who helps people to get medicines who cannot afford it.
Started almost 8 years ago since he has been serving for such a noble cause, Omkarnath travels every day across Delhi, NCR for several kilometres to collect unused medicines and give them to the needy ones and those who can’t afford it.
Omkarnath in his mission leaves early from his home to collect medicines from different places across Delhi, Gurgaon. He roams around in different places asking people for unused, not required or those who want charity medicines. He does it like ‘sabziwala’ (vegetable vendors) roam in residential areas to sell their vegetables.
His mission has been a success as now people have started sending him medicines from other nations. He further donates medicines to charitable dispensaries run by AIIMS, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, etc.
One of those thousands who were helped by ‘Medicine Baba’ said that “medicines are so costly that we are not able to afford them. But because of the ‘Medicine Baba’, my brother was saved … thousands of others too.”
“The people who donate are the heroes, I have no role to play; it’s nothing extraordinary. 8 years ago, I started but today it has become a mass movement and it should keep going for the welfare of the society,” Omkarnath says while mentioning about his work.
Medicine Baba has installed over 50 medicine collection boxes outside colleges, temples and other public institutions.
I am not begging for medicines but merely trying to save people’s lives.
