Kanchan Ugursandi Becomes First Biker To Reach Lipulekh Pass

In a remarkable achievement, Kanchan Ugursandi, a pioneering motorcyclist from Jharkhand known as the “Biker Girl,” has made history by becoming the first person to ride a motorcycle to Lipulekh Pass, situated at 17,500 feet along the India-China border. Her incredible feat was part of an adventurous journey along the challenging Kailash Mansarovar route, highlighting her indomitable spirit and passion for exploration.

At just 32 years old, Kanchan, a tribal rider, embarked on her journey from Delhi, navigating through Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. She faced daunting terrain and high-altitude conditions to reach the historic Lipulekh Pass. In an interview with India Today TV, she recounted her determination: “For two years, I tried to reach Lipulekh but had to turn back twice due to landslides near Dharchula. This time, on my third attempt, I finally made it.”

Lipulekh Pass holds both strategic and religious significance for India, located at the junction of India, China, and Nepal. In recent years, China has bolstered its road infrastructure on its side of the border, enhancing its tactical advantage. In response, India’s Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has constructed a new road to Lipulekh, improving access and security for Indian forces. Traditionally, Indian pilgrims undertook arduous treks to reach Tibet’s Mount Kailash for the sacred Mansarovar pilgrimage, a journey that often took weeks. The newly built road simplifies this pilgrimage and rekindles hopes for the route’s reopening amid ongoing border tensions.

During her journey, Kanchan expressed a vision for the future, appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the establishment of a Kailash Mansarovar corridor, akin to the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor in Pakistan. She highlighted how this initiative could greatly facilitate Hindu pilgrims in completing the Kailash Parikrama, making the sacred journey more accessible.

Kanchan Ugursandi’s adventurous spirit and dedication to her cause not only inspire fellow bikers and adventurers but also emphasize the importance of spiritual and cultural connections in India. Her journey to Lipulekh Pass is a testament to the power of determination and the allure of exploration.
