Morbi bridge collapse: PM Modi chairs high level meet after assessing site

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a high-level conference in Morbi, Gujarat, to assess the situation following the tragic bridge collapse that killed at least 135 people.

The Prime Minister stressed that the authorities must maintain contact with the afflicted families and ensure that they get all available assistance at this difficult time. Officials informed the Prime Minister on the rescue effort and the support offered to individuals impacted, according to a news release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

PM Modi stated that the requirement of the hour is to undertake a thorough investigation into all elements of this incident. He also stated that the inquiry’s primary findings must be adopted as soon as possible.

CM Bhupendra Patel, state Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Minister Brijesh Merja, Chief Secretary of Gujarat, State DGP, local Collector, SP, Inspector General of Police, MLAs and MPs, and other officials attended the meeting.

Earlier, upon arrival in Morbi, the Prime Minister paid a visit to the site of the bridge collapse. He rushed to Morbi Civil Hospital, where the injured are being treated.

He also engaged with people working in rescue and relief efforts, praising their bravery.

At least 135 people were murdered, including women and children, and over 100 are being treated for injuries after a cable suspension bridge in Morbi town fell on Sunday, plummeting people into the Machchhu River.
