Following the Morbi cable bridge collapse disaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a three-day visit of Gujarat and Rajasthan, has chosen to postpone his roadshow scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad on Monday.
The Page Committee Sneh Milan function that was scheduled to take place in Prime Minister Modi’s virtual presence has been postponed, according to a statement from the BJP Gujarat media cell late on Sunday night. However, the ceremonial ceremonies to dedicate the Rs 2,900 crore in railroad projects will go according to plan.
According to Mohanbhai Kalyanji Kundariya, a BJP member of parliament from Rajkot, the rescue effort is being led by the NDRF.
“As there is a lot of silt, there is equipment at the location to pump out the water so that we can identify the bodies below. I think the event was caused by the bridge becoming overloaded. Many teams are involved in the rescue, and CM will come soon ” he added.
Amit Patel and Sukram, two on-site eyewitnesses, speculated that the event may have happened due to the densely packed throng at the bridge.
State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced shortly after the tragedy that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had been sent to the area.
Prime Minister’s Office had earlier stated that PM Modi had requested close monitoring of the situation and the provision of all aid feasible to those who will be impacted.
