Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Shimla on Tuesday to attend the ‘Garib Kalyan Sammelan’ and released Rs 21,000 crore to more than 10 crore beneficiary farmers as the 11th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme’s financial benefit.

On the way to Ridge Maidan in Shimla, people showered flower petals on PM Modi’s cavalcade.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Sammelan envisions elected public representatives around the country directly connecting with the people in order to obtain input on the government’s many welfare programmes.

The freewheeling engagement, which is taking place across the country, aims to obtain open and honest input from the public, as well as to better understand the impact of welfare systems on people’s lives and to investigate convergence and saturation in relation to various government programmes. The goal is to increase the reach and efficiency of government programmes in order to improve the country’s residents’ quality of life.
