Rekha Sharma, president of National Commission for Women (NCW), criticised Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, for saying that 50% of rape allegations there were fictitious.

Rekha Sharma, president of National Commission for Women (NCW), criticised Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, for saying that 50% of rape allegations there were fictitious.

She said that while making the remark, Gehlot is actually disputing the information about his condition. She also charged that the Rajasthani police operated with the same philosophy. “When the chief minister of Rajasthan, @ashokgehlot51, claims that 50% of rape cases there are fictitious, he is in denial. His police operate exactly with the same mentality, which is why women in the state don’t receive justice, “In a Saturday tweet, Sharma.

Earlier on Friday, CM Gehlot stated that more over half of the state’s reported incidents of crimes against women were unfounded.

He said that the state’s mandatory FIR system is to blame for the spike in the number of rapes.

“Who rapes someone? Most often, the victim’s friends or even family will conduct crimes. There were fraudulent cases filed in around 56% of the cases of crimes against women. We have started taking action in this situation “stated chief minister.

“Standing next to me is DGP. To discourage others from daring to falsely represent the state by bringing litigation, I would want to stress that those who do so should not be spared “Gehlot said.

Rajasthan is ranked second in 2021 for crimes against women, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). For the third straight year, the majority of rape cases were recorded in the state.
