The two municipal bodies said the tempo of encroachment removal activities will be expanded and that they are gearing up a strategy for it, a day after Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Adesh Gupta sent a letter to the BJP-led East and South Delhi Municipal Corporations to identify and bulldoze illegal encroachments.
A preliminary survey is being conducted, according to SDMC Mayor Mukesh Suryan, to identify regions where a drive will be organised. Shaheen Bagh, Okhla, Madanpur Khadar, Jasola, Sarita Vihar, and Sri Niwaspuri are among the areas listed by the body so far.
“The field survey is an ongoing exercise. A meeting has been called with the executive wing to chalk out the resources needed for it (the anti encroachment drive) . Some areas will need bulldozers while smaller encroachments will not require heavy machinery. We will write to police after finalising the action plan,” he quoted.
Suryan went on to say that encroachment removal is standard activity for the company, and that similar drives happen every day.
