The gain of Chennai checkers is keeping Tamil Nadu on the edge and the Madras High Court prolonged the suspense further with legal eagles descending in Chennai to represent warring factions.

The court today said a floor test shouldn’t be conducted in the Tamil Nadu assembly until it issues further orders. The court also observed that fresh elections can’t be held for the seats of 18 MLAs aligned to the TTV camp who were disqualified by speaker P Dhanapal. The final decision on the floor test will be taken in next hearing on October 4th.

While the EPS-OPS goverment heaved a sigh of relief for the moment considering the fact that their govt is secure for now, Stalin’s DMK said it’s a victory for democracy since the court according to them has defeated the EPS government’s plan to disqualify the rebel MLAs and call for a floor test in the interim.

Though Dinakaran’s MLAs continue to remain disqualified, the court’s decision however buys him time during a turbulent phase in Tamil Nadu politics. The big questions are — is it advantage TTV for now? In the end where does the Tamil Nadu voter stand? Will the final decision on the floor test finally help resolve Tamil Nadu power play?
