DELHI: Congress supporters are protesting in front of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s house, against the announcement by AAP regarding the pay hike proposal, yesterday.
The BJP too has lashed out at the AAP party stating that, “the pay hike is unreasonable.”
The Congress and BJP are in favour of a pay hike but not to the extent of 400%. They believe that a 400% hike is unreasonable and unnecessary.
An independent committee to suggest allowances and salaries for Delhi MLAs set up by Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, had put forward the suggestion to increase the salaries by four times on October 6, 2015. It has suggested the basic salary of legislators to be increased from the current ₹ 12,000 to Rs 50,000.
If the hike is accepted, then the Delhi MLAs will become the highest paid MLAs in the country.
As of now, Himachal Pradesh MLAs are the highest paid, who get a salary of ₹ 1.2 lakh every month.
