Puri: On the occasion of Christmas, world-renowned sand artist, Sudarsan Pattnaik decided to gift the nation the world’s tallest Santa Claus made of sand.
The noted sand sculptor, Pattnaik, along with his students used more than 1000 tonnes of sand including coloured sand to sculpt the sand statue of St. Nick at Puri beach in Odisha on Thursday.
The 45-feet-high Santa that spreads the message of ‘world peace’ has been built by Pattnaik and his team of 20 students from ‘Sudarsan Sand Art Institute’ of Puri in 2 days.  The mammoth structure will be on display from Christmas to New Year. The sculptor of the giant statue has staked claim to be recognized as the world’s tallest Santa made of sand.
“I have appealed to Limca Book of Records to place this record in their book. We broke our own previous record,” Patnaik said.

Pattnaik also posted an image of the sand sculpture on Twitter on Thursday.
The award winning sculptor Sudarsan has previously earned accolades for building statues of Lord Jesus and Mother Mary. In 2011 also, the artist had created a 35-feet-high statue of Santa Claus. If this year’s Santa is recorded in the Limca Book of Records, Pattnaik and his team will break their own record.
