MUMBAI: Veteran CPI leader Govind Pansare, who was shot at near his home in Kolhapur on February 16, passed away on Friday at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai.
Pansare, 82, was injured in an attack when he was returning from the morning walk along with his wife Uma and two unidentified assailants fired at the couple. He was flown in an air ambulance to Mumbai from Kolhapur and admitted in the hospital earlier this week where he was put on ventilator and his condition was critical but stable.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over his death and said, “It is extremely sad news. I was hoping that Pansare would recover.”
According to the sources, Pansare’s body on Saturday will be taken to Kolhapur for the funeral.
