MUMBAI: In another atrocious case reported from Mumbai, a 17-year-old boy has succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, 10 days after he was brutally assaulted in custody in Mumbai Juvenile Home.

The deceased, identified as Aamir Ahmed who was taken into custody on April 17 in a theft case revealed names of two inmates and Warden of David Sassoon Juvenile Home in Matunga before his death. He claimed that he was being tortured and sodomized by the people in the Juvenile Home.

The family members, planning to approach the Devandra Fadnavis government for the matter, claimed that their boy was beaten with bamboo sticks and cricket bat by almost 15 people. They further stated that Aamir was asked to arrange for marijuana on May 18 by the senior inmates, which he refused to do.

The police, however, claimed that three inmates including Aamir tried to escape from the Home the same night but the deceased was caught by the Warden and another senior inmate.

But, the family further alleged that the boy had informed them about the torture he had been going through in the Home.  They said that the Warden and senior inmate thrashed Ahmed and also instructed other inmates to beat him.

A murder case has been registered and Warden Gajanan Pakhare, and senior inmate Karim Sheikh, have been booked under Indian Penal Code Section 302 for murder, police informed.
