NEW DELHI: Wife of former Delhi Law Minister and AAP MLA Somnath Bharti, Lipika Mitra on Thursday filed a police grievance towards him accusing him of “domestic violence” and “torture”.

“The grievance of Lipika, wife of Somnath Bharti, was filed on the workplace of the DCP of South West district in Dwarka, it has been transferred to the Crime Against Women Cell for additional investigation and report,” a senior police officer stated.

Lipika has levelled similar allegations towards Bharti that she had filed in her grievance to the Delhi Commission for Women yesterday.

She had filed a 26-web page grievance with the DCW during which she alleged that Bharti had pressured her to go for abortion when she turned pregnant for the third time and that she as soon as tried to slit her wrist as a result of unrelenting torture.

“Me and my children are topic to harassment and torture — psychological, bodily and oral — by my husband Somnath Bharti… There is a persistent menace from my husband and his supporters,” she had stated in her grievance to the DCW.

She was later despatched to Deen Dayal Upadhayay hospital for medical examination of her accidents, which she claimed to have been inflicted upon her by her husband, police sources stated.

No FIR has been registered within the case as police officers would seek the advice of their seniors within the Police Headquarters (PHQ) tomorrow to determined the additional plan of action, they added.

The couple has two children and Lipika lives individually in Dwarka together with the youngsters.

Notices by DCW were issued against Somnath Bharati yesterday, after Lipika levelled costs of domestic violence, psychological torture, dowry and forgery towards him. The DCW has requested him to seem earlier than it by June 26.

In reply to her allegations, Bharti additionally alleged that Lipika had threatened me that she is going to spoil my political life “and doubtless, that is the best way she selected.”
