CHENNAI: With 168 passengers on board, a GoAir flight hit an aerobridge at the Chennai airport on Friday causing major damage to the aircraft, sources said adding that the collision took place because the aerobridge operator was allegedly on the phone when the aircraft was trying to align itself.

The passengers and crew members including an infant onboard the flight that was coming from Mumbai are reported to be safe.

“The flight was hit while aligning with the aero bridge damaging the fuselage close to the front door of the aircraft” said a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) source.

Sources further revealed that the flight G8-305 was bound to Port Blair and the aircraft has been grounded. The passengers had to exit the aircraft from the rear door with the help of a step ladder.
The incident is being examined by the DGCA, said Chennai Airport Director.
