A woman, who had got severely injured when a coconut tree fell on her, died on Saturday morning.
According to police, 57-year-old Kanchan Raghunath was on a routine walk on Friday in Swastik Park area of Chembur when she was struck by a falling tree, which injured her head. Raghunath was rushed to a nearby hospital and admitted to ICU where she succumbed to her injuries this morning.
The woman was a Yoga instructor and had been associated with Doordarshan earlier.
The unfortunate incident has sparked anger among residents of the area. According to reports, an application had been filed requesting to cut the tree earlier this year, However, BMC had rejected the application on the grounds that the tree was still healthy.
Meanwhile, the local councillor Asha Marathe written to BMC and has demanded action against accused officials for negligence. She has also asked for an inquiry against the officials.
