A Class 5 student of a convent school in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, committed suicide after allegedly being punished by a teacher in his school. As per reports, 12-year-old Navneet Prakash consumed poison to end his life on September 15 after returning from school.
He died at a hospital on Wednesday night after battling for life for six days.

Navneet, who was apparently troubled with his teacher for misbehaving with him, left behind a suicide note. In the note, the boy wrote how he was harassed and denied attending the exams.

“Aaj maine soch liya hai ki main marne wala hoon. Meri aakhri iksha meri ma’am ko kisi bachhe ko itni badi saza na dene ko kahein (Today I have decide to end my life. It’s my last wish that please tell my teacher not to give such a punishment to any other student),” he said in the suicide note.

Ravi Prakash, the father of deceased child, claimed that the teacher used to mentally harass his child. He said, “My son was a very bright student and he took tuition from the class teacher. He scored very high marks. Bhavna used to mentally harass him to join her tuition classes.”

An official privy to the investigation into the matter said that they had cross-checked the handwriting of the deceased child with his school copies and it had matched.

Angry over the death, many parents stormed the school on Thursday and vented their ire on school property.

Gorakhpur Superintendent of Police (City) Vinay Kumar Singh said that the teacher named in the suicide note had been arrested and was being interrogated. Other staff members and management of the school would also be questioned, if required, officials said.
