A day after a four-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a male teacher at GD Birla School in Kolkata; another case has come to light. This time it is a 3-year-old who was molested by two non-teaching staff members of MP Birla Foundation School. The incident happened in September. The parents of the victim said that despite lodging the complaint with police, no action has been taken against the culprits. After yesterday’s incident, the angry parents of the victim protested outside the school demanding justice for their daughter.
“This is for the second time that such an incident has happened at GD Birla School. In 2014, a girl student was sexually assaulted and the school authorities didn’t take any action,” the four-year-old’s father told News18 on Friday. “Me and my wife are in a state of shock. My daughter is also very traumatised. I will never send her to school again.”
The father of the victim also said that the school does not have CCTV cameras and many parents have even demanded that the principal of the school resigns as they think the students are not safe in the school.
However, the school authorities in their defence said that the teacher was recruited by a Bengaluru-based company and that they were cooperating with the police. The school also said that they might terminate the teacher if found guilty. “We might terminate the contract with them if the two are found guilty,” the official said.
Despite so much awareness, the cases of child sex abuse in the country are on rise. In 2014, a similar complaint had been lodged against one of the school teachers of a popular school in south Kolkata and it has been three years, the parents of the student are still waiting for justice to be done.
