Ganga river water level has increased to 1.91 metres over the danger mark in the Munger division and a flood Alert Has Been Issued For The Region. As per the Flood Hub by Google, the water level in the area is “above danger level” and officials and the people have been asked to remain cautious regarding the issue.

Expected Rise In Water Levels

The Flood Hub data suggests that there is an expected rise of 15 to 30 centimetres in the river levels in the area as compared to today’s morning levels. It has been termed as the highest river water levels in the region since the last 50 years, making it clear that the current situation is serious and people have been advised not to venture into the river areas.

Wider Flood Situation Across Bihar

The rise in Munger comes amid a broader flood crisis unfolding across Bihar, with several major rivers, including the Ganga, Kosi, Gandak and Punpun, flowing above the danger mark in multiple locations. Districts such as Bhagalpur, Patna, Khagaria, Vaishali, Begusarai, Buxar and Bhojpur have all reported flood-like conditions in recent days, driven by continuous rainfall in Nepal, neighbouring states and within Bihar itself. Increased water discharge from barrages, including Valmikinagar, Kosi Birpur and Sone Indrapuri, has added further pressure on the river systems.

Erosion And Displacement Reported

The rising water levels have also increased riverbank erosion in various places in the Ganga region with reports of flooded temples, damage to embankments, and relocation of families to safer places to avoid any risk. The teams of the Water Resources Department have been dispatched to monitor various vulnerable parts of the Ganga to carry out protective measures against erosion.

Authorities On Alert

Now, since the water level in the Ganga region in Munger is at its peak since decades, the local administrations in all the affected regions have heightened the level of vigilance and relief efforts. People living near the banks of the river have been cautioned to keep themselves updated via official notifications and not to venture near the water bodies.
