There is yet another step forward in the process of creating a new elevated expressway, connecting East Delhi directly to Noida International Airport located in Jewar, which has been approved by the Noida Authority.
Route
It is estimated that the future corridor will be around 50 kilometers long and will connect Akshardham Temple in East Delhi with the Jewar Airport. The part of the route going through Noida will be about 27 kilometers long and will go on the elevated level. Six-lane main carriageway is expected with the width being extended up to eight lanes in some approaches.
Reducing Travel Time
According to the authorities, the future construction of the corridor will allow reducing the travel time between Akshardham and Jewar Airport to 60-70 minutes. Currently, the time needed to get from Delhi to Jewar Airport by the existing highways varies from 60 to 90 minutes, and in case of travelling from some East Delhi locations, it may exceed even two hours in the rush hours.
Beneficiaries
The corridor will mostly benefit those residents of areas such as Mayur Vihar, Patparganj, IP Extension, Kalindi Kunj and Sarita Vihar who do not have any direct expressway connection with the airport at the moment. It is also possible to connect the area to Faridabad with the help of Manjhawali bridge.
Further Steps
After approving the route, the next step of the process involves soil testing and preparing a detailed project report. This information will allow determining all the design specifications and needs in constructing the future corridor. In addition, the construction and later maintenance of the corridor will be performed by the National Highways Authority of India.
The corridor is just one more project which will be used to connect Delhi and NCR regions to the new airport, along with the proposed Rapid Rail Transit System corridor.
